Which Belgian Festival Should You Choose in 2026? The Ultimate Guide & Quiz
Share
Belgium may be small, but its festival scene is massive and diverse. No matter the music style, size, or theme, there’s something for everyone. From world‑famous electronic music events to intimate village‑style experiences, every festival has its own personality.
Last year, I had the crazy idea to visit as many Belgian festivals as I could (“Italians at Belgian festivals” with my page @italiansinbelgium). Allez, time to share what I learnt: here’s a guide to the best Belgian festivals, plus tips to help you choose the right one for your vibe, music taste and mood.
In case reading is not your favorite sport, I also added the links to each “festival recap reel”, so you can also actually see with your own eyes what each festival was like.
WHERE CAN WE START?

BIG FESTIVALS
Rock Werchter
One of the legendary Belgian festivals. Don’t expect elaborate decorations here, Rock Werchter focuses mostly on music, offering one of the strongest line-ups in Belgium every year. While the name may trick you into expecting to find only Rock music, this festival covers artists of all types and times. Last year, we got iconic bands like Linkin Park, Deftones and Green Day as well as “newer” names like Mark Ambor, Damiano David, Olivia Rodrigo and Lola Young.
I would say that the average age is from Millennials and up. Crowd-wise, it can get veeery busy, especially from mid-afternoon on (Rock Werchter hosts 88,000 to 90,000 visitors per day). Dus ja, if you get overwhelmed quickly in busy crowds, you might wanna keep this in mind.
Some iconic names going to Rock Werchter this year:
- The Cure
- Gorillaz
- Lewis Capaldi
- Moby
- Mumford & Sons
- The Prodigy
- Teddy Swims
- The Vaccines
- Twenty One Pilots
- and many more!
Pukkelpop
For me, Pukkelpop is a perfect balance. It’s huge, invites interesting artists and has plenty of space. While it doesn’t have a hardcore theme (you can find plenty of music styles), it has nice decorations, cozy food areas, entertainment and art corners, and fun activities like a big wheel, skating zones, and an “e-rena” for gaming. Some festivals go hard on themes and decorations, while others go hard on big names or other elements. Pukkelpop has a great balance of everything. It is one of Belgium’s most famous festivals and one I would go back to every year!
Like Rock Werchter, Pukkelpop is also known for inviting iconic artists of all times. Some fun names going to Pukkelpop this year:
- Major Lazer
- Deftones
- Florence + The Machine
- Roxy Dekker
- Sombr
- Yungblud
- Zara Larsson
- and many more!
Tomorrowland
The world-famous electronic music festival. It feels like stepping into a fantasy village dedicated to music.
The location is huge, the decorations are spectacular and the artists, well, let me just tell you that they invite some of the best DJs in the world. I was able to see artists such as
- Martin Garrix
- Afrojack
- Lost frequencies
- Dimitri Vegas
- Paul Kalkbrenner
- Armin Van Buuren
- Ofenbach
- Timmy Trumpet
- Rubin Schulz
- Klingande
- Tiesto
- Steve Aoki
- and more
It’s a magical experience, immersive, different DJs styles and, quite often, a huge throwback to my student years music. People describe it as one of the most magical festivals out there and I personally agree (if you like the music of course: think of EDM, techno, house, trance).
MEDIUM & UNIQUE CONCEPT FESTIVALS
Campo Solar
If I had to choose a smaller festival, Campo Solar would be my winner. Walking in feels like stepping into a little farmer’s village with corn, sunflowers, lavender and carefully designed corners. The festival is very family-friendly, with a playground, farm animals, local delicious food and cozy gigs (but don’t get fooled by this, Campo Solar also offers some amazing party vibes!).
They offer plenty of music genres, with both Belgian and international artists.
It’s not your average festival, and trust me, I mean it in a good way!
Paradise City
Probably one of the most beautiful locations for a festival: set in nature, with a forest, a castle, and a small lake. Idyllic!
Previously awarded as the most sustainable festival in the world, Paradise city has 500 square meters of solar panels, uses recycled material, gives great attention to waste management and has all vegan food options. So, this festival is not just about music; it’s also about the environment.
Music-wise? Paradise City is for the electronic music lovers. Get ready for an immersive experience, lost in the forest, between wooden constructions, or while admiring the castle at sunset.
Sunrise Festival
Uh, how can I describe this in a few words? YOUNG & DIRTY BEATS.
Sunrise festival targets a younger student-type crowd. The area gives tropical summer vibes, it’s beautifully decorated and has a small lake where guests can take a refreshing swim while enjoying the main stage show.
Music-wise, it’s high-energy party beats, think of drum & bass, commercial remixes, heavy beats, hardcore, and more.
Some names you can expect to see in this year’s edition:
- Omdat Het Kan & Average Rob
- Used
- Boef x Lil Kleine
- K3
- Kraantje Pappie
- Mark with a K
- and more.
So yeah, as I said, get ready to get some dirty party going!
Gent Jazz
A 16 days small, intimate and cozy festival for the jazz lovers, but not only.
The program is divided in two: the core jazz part and a more experimental part, with some soul, electronic, pop and other genres. Lots of laid back vibes, great food options and lekker bier.
Dour
Doureeeuuh! We all know what this festival is famous for and it starts with a D…dancing, of course. What were you thinking of?!
Dour Festival, one of the wildest and most "underground" festival. Five days, seven stages, plenty of space, diverse music and good vibes everywhere. There is a quite diverse crowd at this festival; the average age? Millennials, I would say.
As for the music, you can expect a mix of electronic, drum 'n' bass, techno, hip-hop, indie rock and punk.
THEMATIC & FUN FESTIVALS
Alcatraz
A heavy metal paradise with a prison theme. As the name suggests, this festival's theme is the prison of Alcatraz. All of the guests are considered the inmates, who for a weekend can come visit the prison and enjoy some heavy metal, hard rock and related genres.
Highly recommended for the hard metal and rock lovers. Amazing decor, friendly and intimate atmosphere, fun entertainment, and a line up that is just on fire (not only the line up!).
Kamping Kitsch
Uhm..where do I start with this one?
Previously mentioned as the most marginaal festival of the country, Kamping Kitsch is basically a massive costume party. But not any costume, the theme is marginaal, daring, shameless and over the top: the crazier, the better. People get the chance for one day to let go, laugh at themselves and not take life too seriously.
The festival includes a countless number of entertainment and funny elements, such as an on-spot hairdresser (spin the wheel and you get what you get), dildo throwing competitions, custard wrestling and much more. But don't let this scare you, this is all done for humor purposes, nothing else😉 People are there just to party and have a good laugh.
DISCLAIMER: It is an intense festival, so surely not for everyone. But allez, you gotta do Kamping Kitsch at least once in your life!
